Dining & Nightlife

Much more than just “Bratwurst” (fried sausage) and “Lebkuchen” (spicy gingerbread)

In Nuremberg you can also enjoy things the metropolitan way. The culinary spectrum extends from the Franconian inn and tavern through to international cuisine right up to the star-rated restaurant, depending on your mood, the ambience can be rustic, cosy-romantic or urban-style. Incidentally, you must have tried the famous Nuremberg Bratwürste on Sauerkraut at least once in your lifetime. The best way to do this is at one of the historic Bratwurstküchen (Bratwurst grill restaurants) located around Nuremberg’s main market or as “3 im Weckla” (3 x Nuremberger Bratwürste) in a bread roll (hotdog) to go.

Nuremberg - the Christmas city

With the opening of the world-famous Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt, the smell of “Lebkuchen” (spicy gingerbread) and “Glühwein” (mulled wine) drifts through the city. Festive illumination lights up the alleyways, and if you are lucky, snow covers the old houses. Of course, the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle also dominates the shopping miles of Nuremberg, but anyone who brings a little time with them will no doubt find the right present in the many exceptional boutiques and shops. The centuries-old tradition of the Christkindlesmarkt is carefully maintained and cultivated. In the wooden stalls and kiosks there are only high-quality products, in some cases hand-made and crafted articles such as Christmas tree decorations, wooden nut crackers, cribs and of course the Nuremberg Tinsel Angel (Rauschgoldengel) and „Zwetschgenmännla“ (Prune people).
